As we know from many players, there are relatively long cables between the laser pickups and RF-amps.
The weak current coming from the photo diodes can easily be distorted. Many designs have the RF-Amp on the laser head doing I/V conversion and amplification. But for those designs, where the RF-Amp is remote on the main board: Would it make sense, to but a buffer in the signal path? All the best, Salar |

These days all pick-ups have on board amplification. If you can find one that has off-board amplifier, installing one on pick-up could be tricky, but doable. I think Marantz CD63 has two-stage RF: first immediately below the laser pick-up located on separate PCB, and second on main PCB.
One of the routine steps when I perform modifications is to remove plastic membrane cables and connectors that feed signals from the mechanism on the main PCB. For this I usually use either solid silver cables or high quality copper litz cables - depending on the required end-result and characteristics of the original player. I solder both ends to mechanism PCB and main PCB. This removes two contacts (resistance) and always provides excellent results while giving the option to tailor the end-result simply by choosing appropriate cable material and construction. Boky |
