Convert $120 US Pioneer DV-656 to $700 European SACD version..?

I just bought a Pioneer DV-656 from the US for $120 and it appears to be identical to the $700 European version, except that the US version does not play SACD (according to the specs on the Pioneer website, the DACs etc. appears to be the same and I doubt they use different drive mechanisms and lasers). Does anybody know if it is possible to enable the SACD ability in the US version - e.g. by updating the firmware to the European version?

I have dealt with the voltage issue by using a 220->110V
converter and the region issue by doing a region crack.

I'm also curious about this. I have a pioneer DV-525 which i LOVE, but would also like SACD compatibility.
