Although you will probably have to replace a bunch of leaking(chemically leaking) Elna caps in the X555ES(w/Nichicons, please), I would positively steer you toward that Sony. It's a heck of a lot easier to get great sound from it, upgrade-wise, and it has a VASTLY, HUGELY better built, better engineered & better performing transport than the crap CDM12 series mech in the CD6000. Also, the SM5872 dac chips in the CD6000 are EXTREMELY tricky to get consistently respectable sound from, and ultimately are not nearly as good as the DAC setup in the Sony(although you need to really give super clean supply & great output stage opamps to get beyond 'anylitically transparent' sound & into 'musical').
