Denon DVD-2200 Player Wont Read CDs

I cleaned the laser and it made no difference. plays dvd perfectly. I like this player because it does SACD/DVD-Audio but it wont play redbook CDs anymore and cant understand why. it spins and trys to read then gives up with 0h00m00s on lcd. I have no clue what transport/laser it uses, anyone know? Or should I just toss it and get something else (recommendations welcom but < $200 :D, as I only want to use it as a transport)
