Default TEAC VRDS10 won't play

Hi all,

I am facing a strange problem with a TEAC VRDS 10.
  • Drawer operates normally
  • Disc spins
  • TOC is displayed (number of tracks, duration etc..)

But the player won't play
It keeps spinning and nothing else happens, no display, no sound.

Given the fact the TOC is read I assume the pick-up lens is ok.
Given the fact disc spins, I assume the motor is good.

Can someone put me on track to find out where the problem is ?

Thanks for your precious help !

Cheers

T.

10 years ago I perform repair service by the same model, that have the same problem. Unfortunately I forget the details. But I can say, that the sleed- and tracking servo driving was faulty.

After put in CD don't press the "Open/Close" button. Instead of this press the "Next" botton until you read on display third or fourth track. Then press "Play" and observe the optical pick up (laser unit) KSS-240. At the same time measure with your multimeter (and scope) at input and output of the tracking power amplifier, that drives the tracking coil in for the laser lens.
The error must be in the tracking prozessor (CXA1382 ??), power buffer for tracking coil and tracking coil itself (so as driver for sleed motor and sleed motor itself - DC check could be also helpfull).

Even cable cracks and hairline cracks on the PCB are possible. Additional incorrect crimp connections on the blade terminals (unwanted fluctuating transition resistances).

Hello tiefbassuebertr

First of all : Happy New Year

I have completeky disassembled the VRDS 10 and reassembled it and....it works !

I suppose there was a bad contact somewhere...

Thanks again,

T.

happy new year to all - also from me

I recall, by one of the sub PCBs of an early exemplar of this model there are some hairline cracks (arround the transport? - I have forget unfortunately) through barely visible broken board. At those days, this was extremely hard to find. Because it was a warranty repair, I sent this CD player at first step twice to the Teac service center in Wiesbaden without success. After all, I find and did remove all hairline cracks itself to my own expense in order not to lose this customer/user.
Due this trouble I haven't forgotten this (the error sometimes occurred very rarely, thus TEAC don't find and carry out this one)
At whole, the customer must bring me his TEAC VRDS player 5 times to me.
The reason for the "hard to find" hairline cracks was a hidden shipping damage - so I think

Unfortunately not. But about "Triplex" in Wiesbaden (German's authorized TEAC/TASCAM service center) you get all service manuals - as I know. Here the contact URL (unfortunately only in German - please use thlanguage tools by google):
Triplex Service GmbH - Kontaktformular Ersatzteile
and telefon numbers
Triplex Service GmbH - Impressum
