Default WDTV wish list

I Have a $99 WDTV media serve but the audio is resampled 48KHz. The video part is quite good. WD has a website where people can propose and vote for features. Here is the one for "bit-transparent audio playback":

Very likely the SMP8635LF chipset can output 48kHz only. The chipset is aimed at inexpensive DVD/BluRay playback.

Even if capable of Dolby/DTS/Multichannel data?

That has nothing to do with clock frequency of the integrated SPDIF transmitter.

Its not a limitation of the chipset. I have an Egreat EG-M34A which also uses the Sigma Designs SMP8635LF chipset.
It has no problem passing bit-perfect DTS-CD audio at 16/44.1 to my processor.

Thanks for the info. Thus it is just a matter of "fixing" the driver...

I'm curious if your Egreat can pass also 24/96 khz HD Audio through digital out to an external DAC and this DAC will lock on 96 khz.
WDTV passes the 16/44 but when it comes to pass 24/96 format it will send it downsampled to 48 khz
with the last firmware the audio clipping issue was also resolved thus now they say is outputing "bit perfect" 16/44

I'm fairly certain that it does pass hi-res audio since it does play files up to 24/192 but I can't confirm since the processor which I am using at moment only does up to 24/48.

Remove the Toslink transmitter. Add a buffer (optional). I did that with a laserdisc player which had an unpopulated optical output. Mod CD/LD players with digital coaxial output - need help! There's a sketch of the layout and schematic I used, and pics of the board I made in the bathtub.
If the WDTV doesn't use 5V inside, use a chip which is 3.3 volt compliant and adjust the voltage divider appropriately. If you want a coupling transformer, I've heard you can use the little toroid transformers out of an ethernet card.
