Default standalone cd burner

I have a consumer cd burner which only accepts ''audio only'' cdr discs.

However, as far as I am aware they are identical to the computer cdrs.

How do I mod my cd recorder to make it accept these discs?

they are not identical, they differ in the TOC (table of contents) and i remember there was back then an utility that formated an usual cd-r on the computer to be seen as audio formatted cd on a dedicated stand alone cd-writer.
and i think (not 100% sure) that computer cd-writer ignores the audio-cd TOC of these cds and can be also written as DATA CDs on the PC

does a blank cdr have a TOC?

As far as I know a blank cdr has nothing on it. Both audio and pc cdrs are electrically identical.

Anyway is there a way to to write on them by modding my writer?

every single cd or dvd has a TOC
there it is displayed the media layer info, burn speeds, writing strategies, substrate info...
i don't know how you could modify a standalone cd-writer to e able to write on ordinary data cd-roms.
another/better option is - you should search for some utility that formats ordinary cd-r's TOC to fool the standalone writer as it was dealing with an audio-cd
