- does anyone remember those? Are they reliable?
For my DIY Player (just a frankenstein-like combination of different parts) I am still looking for an old fashioned heavy transport.
I could use a KSS-240A based mechanism, but I do not like the
flimsy built quality. (My fascination with audio came when CD was introduced,
those heavy, full metal players)
BUT: I still have some unused KSS-123A and found information
about the Denon DCD-3300/DCD-1700, which used the KSS-123A laser and
the Sony magnetic linear rails mechanism.
I already booght one CDP-103, second generation player because of the well designed full metal tray and discovered that the CDP-103 uses this kind of transport as well, but lasers for this player are no longer available.

So, before making up my mind how to combine tray, transport, dac, and buying a used DCD-1700 for the magnetic linear rails mechanism:
Are those mechanisms reliable?
Or are they prone to fatiguing over the years, just like a laser will burn out?
There are no moving parts in those mechanisms, but maybe the magnets become weaker over the years...?
All the best,
Sal
