Hi All,
well, typical Bank Holiday blues!! Does anyone know of a good supplier of replacement CDM9 transport mechanisms? Or can I just get hold of this one single part (ie the plastic toothed turret)?? Of course, if there is a superior solution that is a bolt on, I'm all ears...!!! Thanks in advance for any suggestions / pointers you may have. All the best Jon (Hoping not to have to scrap the CD!!) |

Don't scrap it or I'll come over to get it ! That is a serious threat
I know the orange gear you speak of and in my memory this gear has been modified. Don't know the part number unfortunately. They were used in Philips CD9xx series too. Maybe finding one with a dead laser will solve your problem ? Finding a new CDM 9 will be difficult and expensive. There are some german companies that sell them for 140 Euro But I googled this one for you: http://www.hinkel-elektronik.de/shop/2418.html edit: oops, I made a thinking error: the gear is part of the tray not of the laser unit. Please contact Philips for the gear. CD931 and 951 have the same gear.

In my database I found a gear which description says:
Gear from CD-tray (open/close) Part number Philips: 4822-522-33192 Cost: €4.56 without transport. Could this be the one? It's listed in the CD931 & CD951 database. No pictures /Hugo |

Hi Hugo, you're the fastest as always
I'm pretty sure that it is the right gear. They are known for failure and I think it had something to do with wrong grease that was applied.

This might help.......worked great for me:
Here is the best info. I have on replacing the gear. Good luck with the procedure. Best regards, Jonathan Hart Customer Service PS Audio, Inc. 3050 Broadway, Suite 201 Boulder, Colorado 80304 I bought the gear from Robinson Racing Products Tel 209 966 2465 or www.robinsonracing.com I found it on the web it is a 32 pitch 10 tooth gear their number RPB 0100 for $3.50. I cut off the remainder of the old gear teeth and slightly cut down the gear end of the old pulley assembly so that when I mounted the gear on it (tooth end up) ,I couldplace a clip ring in the notch of the original metal shaft so that the plulley assembly wouldn't slide of. You have to cut the pulley back slightly to give just enouth clearance between the gear and the clip ring that it turns easily. I got a clip ring from the local Ace Hardwaree for 11 cents. The material of the old pulley gear assembly is so soft that you can easily cut if back with a sharp knife. I then used epoxy to glue the gear on the pulley assembly. Rememger the collar part of the gear must be mounted down so that the highest gear is furthest from the pulley wheel. Use slow setting epoxy to give a strong bond. The thing works fine. John Jon

Thanks Guys! Spot on as usual!
I was amazed to see the pic on Eddie's site - exactly the same problem!! I have attached Eddies Pic and my own for comparison. I'll be onto Philips tomorrow. Thanks again. I'm kind of looking forward to re-assembling the kit. Jon |

Hi Jon, be sure to clean the new gear and lubricate it with a non-agressive kind of grease like silicon grease. Don't forget the axle.
As I said the gear gets weak from the used grease if I remember correctly.
