Tony,
Your 650 has the older TDA1541 inside, not a 1541a. Therefore you were not comparing the normal 1541A with the S1... Ignore this if you modified your 650 earlier from 1541 to 1541A! Greetings, GuidoB

Guido, I guess your right. I wasn't aware that there are with and w/out "A" suffix. In any case my experiance was some years ago.
Sorry about the confusion.

AMT I would like 2 pleasel.
The TDA1541 is nothing like the newer TDA1541A. Any version of the latter sound quite a bit better than the older "non-A" version. The TDA1541 has the DEM oscillator cap internally, the A needs it externally (couple of hundred pF's). The TDA1541 needs a system clock on pin 4 (kind of internal reclocking), A version can be left unconnected. Now for the sound: I only compared going from TDA1541 to TDA1541A-S1; quite an improvement. Ryan Hill (known as Dr. H) on this board compared going from A to A-S1 in his very much modified Rotel cd player and heard no improvements...

Sorry for the long delay, I'm quite busy at the moment. Also, I'll be on a business trip for the next two weeks, so 1541 orders will have to wait until I'm back
![]() Preferred method of payment is paypal. I'll re-enable the email-button so you can contact me directly. |
