I'm a first time DIYer and I just finished doing some baby mods to a yamaha dvd player (s5860/s637). As I was putting a finishing touch to it, I did something really stupid - I accidentally left a screwdriver tip near my opamp in the output stage and turned the player on. I was puzzled that no sound was coming out, as the last thing I did was merely to replace a hookup wire. Then I noticed the screwdriver tip. Presumably the tip shorted something.
Now if the opamp is fried, it would be easy as I can just put in a new one. But something is bothering me, as an independent channel also seems to be affected. The player has different dacs and opamps for its two channel output and 6.1 output, and I was doing work in the two channel area. Normally I can also get sound from the front-left/front-right of the 6.1 output, but after my accident, the sound there becomes extremely faint. So it seems that I didn't just fry the opamp in the two channel; the screwdriver tip must have done something worse, though reading of the CD and display etc hasn't been affected. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is my player simply gone? Thanks in advance! Stewart |

Please measure the voltages on the supply rails to the opamp, you may have caused some damaged to one (or more) or the internal power supplies. This is probably not terminal though so don't worry !
