What would I do ?
Do some serious listening tests to see how good it is. Seen your other post. Why not have a go at making a PSU

Those are some interesting looking output caps. They look like little chunks of metal. Anyone know what they are?

....plain Siemens bulk metallized foil capacitors, most probably Polyesther dielectricum.
And: I would replace this with a recent DAC system. low-quality DAC with mid-quality parts. Nothing special.

Did you ever find out what those output caps in the Shek D2 are? We know they are Siemens. I took them out, then misplaced them. After installing a couple of Mundorf output caps, I missed the sweet sound of those Siemens output caps. Tried to find out through the maker, Derek Shek, but he said he's thrown out all the design etc. material (darn!), and didn't offer me anything. So I am kicking myself, since I now can't get the sound back, which was unique with the Siemens output caps. Thanks for anyone's specific help. |
