Transforming CD player as DAC

Hi

I have not much experience in modifying digital circuits so
I ask experiemnted guys.

I have an old Nakamichi CDP-2 and the laser is dead and no longer available.
This Nak has a good sound = DAC= TDA1541A.

My question: is it possible to transform the CDP-2 as external DAC?

Hope it will be possible.

Normally the dac board is separate from the transport. If you can locate where the power in is and the digital in, you can remove it and re-box it and all you need to do is add an another power supply. You could probably use the one from the CD player.
