Help a noob with sharp cd player

ok i picked up a not working sharp cd player model dx-677 for $3.50 today. the cd tray opens and closes but after closing doesn't start up spinning, when i hit the play button the laser assembly moves inwards a tad but thats all the player does. it doesnt start spinning or anything. ive taken it out and tested the motors and they work. any ideas? i picked it up with the intentions of using the chassis as a case for my amp project but decided to have a fiddle before i dismantled it.

Could be anything. Does the lens move up and down a few times when you close the drawer with no disc in ? Most but not all CD players need to find focus before the disc spins. Quite possibly a duff pickup- have you cleaned the lens.

um i dunno i think its just a bit dodgy cause it did actually start working the next day after i pulled it out a few times but yea it would kinda shift around a little bit just after closing the draw but not play. thnx anyways for ya help
