Possible to read cdr, how?

It is a JVC xv-d721.
Supports audio formats for DVD Audio including high
sampling frequencies up to 192 kHz, the linear PCM
multichannel format, up to 24-bit resolution and MLP,
as well as the audio formats for DVD Video such as
Dolby Digital 5.1 ch., MPEG multichannel and DTS.
It read dvd-r.

CDR of what specifically? I assume it will probably already read cdr copies of normal audio cds, and possibly vcd, but nothing else.

(Every cd or dvd player I have ever owned right back to the very first 14 bit Magnavox/Philips cd player would read cdr copies of audio cds.)

Odd if yours won't - it would almost have to be a deliberate design choice I suspect.
