Need help with a very old, but otherwise good condition Philips CD-471.
Stopped playing CDs about 4 weeks ago. Philips cannot help as it is that old. Scoured the internet for help... thought there might be someone here who may be able to help, otherwise i'm gunna have to take it to a shop. Everytime I put a CD into it, it makes a mechanical whirring noise, then "Err" appears on the screen. The instruction book says that that happens when "you switch on the player with an empty disc tray, and close the empty tray after use." Can anybody offer any advise? Much appreciated DrJayDee |

I think that this player use a CDM2 philips mecanism.
This mecanism use a hall effect spindle motor, very perfectible. Open the top case and observe the rotation of the CD. If the CD is not rotating, try to help it a little with your finder when you hear the noise. If the CD start, then the motor needs to be replaced (you'd better replace the all mecanism) |

well, I think it's a mechanism problem at a glance... but if the internal circuity has not damaged, you can play CDs with it. open it and click some pictures, then post them here,, so that we can see what is extactly happening inside.
