Philips CD303 suddenly no sound!

Hi, i found the CD303 on a flea market a month ago, and it worked fine until a week ago. Suddenly there's no sound, only a popping noise when you push 'next' button. I've had a receiver on top of the CD player, could it have overheated or something? how do i check the player to find the problem area?

Is the symptom " no sound "

Does everything else work...disk spins, reads TOC, plays...

If so, check the mute reed relays .. tap or carefully probe with an audio cable to an amp.

The mute may be not working and stuck 'off'.

yes everything else works fine. The only problem is that there is no sound. I'm really a newbie to this, how do you find the mute reed relays? what do they look like?

I discovered something weird! If i just leave it on with the cd playing, the sound starts to work after 5-6 minutes! What could be wrong when it acts like that?
