I and many of my friends have bought stuff directly from Guido in the past, give him just a little more time and I am sure he will come through.

He and his business have had a good reputation for a very long time, this is probably some sort of major snag, and it happens to many small businesses which don't always have the resources to deal with lost shipments and other problems smoothly.

I will also admit that I am impatient and also concerned about getting ripped off (had a very close call recently, so I know how it feels) - I really don't think this is a concern here.

I, too, must speak up in defense of Guido. It's obvious from reading his website and other publications that he is very knowledgeable. He has had an excellent reputation for years. I've done business with him and received product promptly. He's obviously having a some short-term issues, and the fact that he has posted responses indicates that he is not taking your money and running.

In this energy-intensive economy fueled by instant communication, we start taking virtually instant worldwide shipment as a birthright. I'm sure if Guido had the capitalization and infrastructure of Amazon, things would be different, but he's a small businessman trying to provide products to a small specialist market. Give him a break.

You can read similar threads on this forum bemoaning "order fulfillment" issues from excellent suppliers (Digi-key, Farnell, etc.) or the shippers (FedEx, UPS, USPS, and others). All are reputable businesses, but mistakes do happen. Deal with them in a patient, professional manner, and don't resort to potentially libelous statements on a public forum.

Note to Guido: perhaps some sort of statement on your home page about the situation would be helpful.

Yes BrianL,
I agree with you that a number of circumstances can excuse his poor communication but I can't understand why I got almost instant replies to my 2 emails requesting a sale (11 min & 14 min turnaround) & no response to my more than 7 emails over 6 days looking for status on the order! You'll also find similar reports here!

Evidence also the fact that he was able to post here instantly!

I think you'll agree this is not bad communication across the board but selective bad communication for whatever reason not yet explained by him!

I'm not expecting instant delivery of product but communication is essential to avoid this sort of scenario we find here!

Edit: I've been on this forum for a number of years & I think you'll find I'm not a trouble maker - this is the first time I've had any issues with an inmate!

I got a refund from him without quibble - just thought I'd mention that here to finalise the issue & end on a good note

All this got me to thinking about the need for low jitter clocks - am I right in thinking that the major benefit accrued from replacing the clock is actually the new cleaner PS that we always put in along with the clock? And in actual fact the last 1%? improvement is down to lower jitter clock?

Of course, better power helps, mainly because it reduces jitter caused by supply noise that couples into the clock.

Even with clean power, different oscillators will have varying amounts (and profiles) of jitter (aka phase noise). Many, if not all, CD chipsets have a very "grunt" oscillator circuit and a relatively low quality crystals.

Perhaps you have to complain loudly on diyaudio before Guido will respond to email?

No response to email sent on the 27th. Another email sent today.

I'm not being unreasonable here: I ordered recording gear from Sweden which had a 2 week production lead time at the same time I ordered the VCXO from Mr Tent. Even with additional shipping delays due to Easter that parcel arrived today via standard airmail post. But still no sign of the VCXO.

Well, on the other hand he did deliver eventually, didn't he.
I know he is moving his entire business and stock warehouse and is working 20 hrs a day to get things rolling again..

If you have only time for 10 email replies and there's 100 in your inbox, you need to make a choice.

Cut the guy some slack.

Jan Didden

thanks Jan

About moving to the new lab: At the agreed date, I couldn't enter the new buidling. It was delayed by 1 week. Subcontractors like companies that takes care of moving stuff, connecting internet, painting walls and stuff and laying down new floors, have tight scedules and aren't availaible 1 week later. Imagine the mess that gives, let alone the fact that I had to leave the old building at the agreed date.......

This mainly caused me 3 weeks delay. Running a business ain't fun at those times.

All orders are shipped out now.

Most products are in stock, new (redesign) XO2 and XO3 boards and filament supplies are available in 2 weeks from now

Guido has responded off list advising that the vcxo shipped last week. I'm glad to hear that the problems causing the delays have been sorted and things are getting back to normal.

Some kind of timely communication with customers, even if it was a bulk email advising of the delays would have gone a long way to preventing the kind of negative comments expressed in this thread.

Thought I should post to finish my contribution to this thread. The VCXO arrived from tentlabs today which is a pretty reasonable transit time from Guido posted. VCXO is now installed in the D1V3 and sound pretty nice. While it would have been great to get the unit earlier I understand Guido's situation and all in all i'm a happy camper...

cheers
Paul

Yes, same experience here. Very prompt on sales enquiries. Once payment was made, everything went quiet. It took over a month before it was shipped (let alone arrived) and support questions were completly ignored. And there was no office moving happening at that time.

Yes, I am facing the similar experience when I just bought CD transport from him in last Dec 2012. Lot of items were short shipped. Emails after emails to get the problem solved but still at limbo. He asked me to send the Drive, the display board, the interconnecting wires , XO 3.2 XO PSU. Instead, I have told him that I will buy all he all these components and send it me to me. Asked for a final quote but again silence from him. Still awaiting for his response.
Regards
