Recommendation for dvd player as cd transport?

What is the latest recommendation for dvd players that sound good (bit perfect) as cd transports through their RCA out. I have found that there are big differences between the sound quality of the digital outs of dvd players. Unfortunately, many dvd players use clumsy processing before sending the digital out so "the digital" in the cable isn't the same data as on the cd. My Phillips sounds pretty bad. My Sony NS500s sounds awesome, as good as my T1000 transport but is out of production. My newer Sony doesn't sound nearly as good but is still way better than the Phillips. Any recommendations?

No articles/ links? Must be everyone with a serious two channel rig went to a pc for digital out.

the most common cause for poor quality digital output of a transport is the clock jitter.

teac make a nice transport or three, also marantz seem popular. Can be expensive though

I use an Oppo DV-981HD - with an upgraded clock/output section its fine.
