Opinions on Meridian 541 surround proc.

Hi all,

I am looking for opinions on the Meridian 541 surround sound processor. I am mainly interested in the Meridian as a preamp as I have no surround setup.
Also, what are the tweak/upgrade option to the Meridian?
I have a gread deal on one.

If it's got Trifield mode processing that's a major plus: far and away the best synthesis of multichannel from standard two channel sources.

How does it stand up to current solid state preamps as a two channel amplifier?

I don't know.

I own, and have been very satisfied, with an 861. In two channel mode it performs at about 90% of the best raw two channel preamps (I also had an Audio Research Ref2 Mk2). In multichannel, Trifield specifically, it is markedly better.
