This weekend i plan to move my very nice sounding Anthem CD1 cd player to the 'second' system. The main system source will be replaced with an IBM laptop. I hope the buzz i hear using AUX will be minimized using the CD tap on the preamp. Even with the buzz i prefer using the laptop because it sounds good but most of all, it's very convenient to have all my music in my lap!
Question, how do i get the most out of the laptop? I have been searching online for usb dacs but found i lose the ability to change the volume control from the laptop. Is this true for all usb dacs? TIA, Godzilla |

I've used the USB converter from Hagerman http://www.hagtech.com/hagusb.html
It has a headphone output on it, which I have not used, but would guess that means the VC on your PC would work. From the converter I go to a Monica DAC, which sounds fantastic. I use it with my CD player or the PC, then into a tube linestate and tube amp. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the setup.
