In all seriousness - I get a small laugh out the all the money people spend on modding the CD63,65,67 CD players. They were nice for there day as a low cost hifi player.
This is not intended to make anyone angry who loves to spend hours diying the Marantz CD players for fun.
The best mod a person can make is to get a external DAC and feed it with a TOS connection from this CD player. Some people prefer SPDIF, I'd rather isolate the ground from a cheap CD player from my DAC.
Search this forum for the "Which DAC" thread. There's lots of great ideas for buying manufactureres DAC eval boards and building your own highend DAC on the cheap.
In the end you will be light years in sound quality ahead of spending any money on the internals of the Marantz.
Just use the Marantz as a transport. You can then even use your PC as a transport which is even better!

Modding a Marantz (or any player) does have the distinct advantage of not converting the digital signal too and from SPDIF. Everything stays I2S - which is much better.
Besides, SPDIF is selfclocking and can introduce of jitter.
Having said that, I use a seperate DAC these days, but feed it balanced I2S using RS423, which works quite well.
And, I think modding a player is a great place to start learning.

SPDIF is a "flawed" interface, because it puts jitter noise to the DAC clock.

It is far better to install a low jitter clock next to the DAC inside the player, which will also control the transport. An external DAC would not have the master clock and will be prone to jitter induced by the digital signal line.
The right way to do it would be to use the external DAC clock in the transport, see for example
