Question CD-PRO2 to DF1704

I'm trying to feed the I2S out of CD-PRO2 to a DF1704 chip. The chip is part of a belcanto DAC which works ok if I use it's SPDIF input. My objective is to bypass the onboard receiver and feed the filter directly with the I2S. But I cant make it to work, the DAC just sits there with no sound. I noticed that both the word-clock and bit-clock lines coming out of the DAC on-board receiver are at a higher frequency than those coming from the CD-PRO2. Can someone help me ? do I need to change the clock frequency on the DF1704 ?

The receiver is the CS8240 which has an I2S output. I just cut the lines going from that to the DF1704 and connect the bus coming from the CD-PRO2 to the DF.

Beside I2S, you will need master clock on df1704.

?? sure I need a master clock on the DF otherwise it would not work for sure. At the moment that clock is 24.5760Mhz and that is part of my question.

I am working with a similar chip, the DF1706. I'm not positive on this, but if the clock is not a standard multiple of the sampling frequency of the data signal, it's not going to work. 24.576 mHz will only work at 48 or 96 kHz sampling rates. Is this what you are sending to the DF1704? Also, make sure the DF1704 is set to receive the same format and interface of audio that you are sending to it.

I'm sending 44.1 Khz/16Bit which is what comes out of the CD-PRO2 transport. I'll follow your advice and make a cheap osc with dif freq just to see if it works.
Thanks Stu.

Hello,

I just build a dac using the DF1704 + PCM 1704(copy of pass D1).
It is connected via I2S to a CD-pro. I took the clock from CD-pro
(there is a optional connector, see manual).

Everything is working fine.

Did You use the DF 1704 in hardware or software mode.
I used hardware mode. If You want I can send a list, how
I connectet the controll inputs of DF 1704

Greetings

zelter

Zelter, thats exactly what I want! I'm also using it in hardware. Please do send me the list (post it here or email it). Did you solder the wires to the cd-pro PCB or does yours have a socket fitted on that clock out ?

Many Thanks.

Posted on a forum. I think there are more people interested in that setup.
