Arcam Alpha 7SE CD player not recognizing discs

Hi all,

I have a problem with my Arcam Alpha 7SE CD player.

Most of the time it won't recognize CDs and just shows a 0 on the display. It initially shows the correct number of tracks, then shows 0 when I press play.

If I eject the CD and retry, eventually it will work.

Any ideas what could be wrong with it?

The problem is a worn out laser mech. Replace the laser, and you will most likely have an ok player.

Hi,

Have you taken the cover off and looked at what is happening with the CD when the player is trying to read it ? Could be the motor rather than the laser.

I believe there's a Sony CDM-14 mechanism in there. KSS-240A perhaps ?
