I have a California Audio Labs CA-5 five disc carousel player that has (apparently terminal) skipping problems. The sound is the best I've ever experienced, but I can't really swing the replacement cost for the laser assembly. I also have several older players, including a Luxman, that have digital outputs but don't sound so great.
Is it possible to combine the circuitry of the CAL with the transport of the Luxman? I'm reasonably competent with non-digital tinkering, mostly tube, but I know little about this stuff. The CAL has no digital input, so I'd have to run a cable between the two chassis somehow.
Possible? Practical?
