Converting a DCC into a DAC

I have a faulty Marantz DD82. I've been using it in monitor mode as a fairly respectable DAC (source as stock CD63 and Philips acoustic edge sound card).
It's a monster of a box, and has a lot of (now) unessesary circutry. So I want to rebox and remove a lot of stuff.
I suppose I need a service manual, does anyone know the whereabouts of one?
So how should I go about it. I'm not great at interprating circut diagrams (not completely illiterate). I just want to connect the coax in straight to the DAC circut, is this possible? I assume all the recording gear is between the coax in and dac, will it just be a simple case of unsoldering some PCBs, then connecting up previous ones?
Thanks for any help on these seemingly moronic questions.
Harry
