Default Cdrom s/pdif output

New to fiddling with digital signals, so bear with me....

I am using a Pioneer DVD106S/2 as a transport with a controller kit (Another CDROM Controller Kit)and it is working fine through the headphone out. However, next stage is to hook up the digital outs to my DAC - DVD outs are specified as s/pdif.

My understanding is that it should be either 1V or 5V output depending on whether it's really s/pdif or at TTL level.

However this puts out 1.65V...so I'm not sure whether I can try and hook it straight into the DAC at that?
