Rotel RCD-991 no sound

I'm trying to figure out why this RCD-991 is making no sound. It's reading and playing discs, but there is no digital data coming from the transport mechanism.

There is a mute line that runs between the CPU chip and the transport mechanism. It is always +5V. The stupid service manual doesn't say whether +5V is mute or not mute. Before looking at the transport mech, I want to make sure that the mute line isn't the problem.

Any advice appreciated!

Hi Jeff,

I am very new at this DIY stuff so I don't have any technical advice. I have a Rotel CDP and have found the Tech Support at Rotel here in America to be outstanding. They guy I spoke with (and he is a genuinely nice guy) helps with questions like that and in my case offered a Rotel approved Mod for my CDP. I also know that they can suggest Mods for the 991 as well as he and I already had that discussion for when I find one at the right price in great condition.

Give them a try and if they aren't that cooperative Down there, try Rotel America in Massachusetts. tel: 978 664 3820.
