I would imagine that the main processor controls this. The circuit probably mutes the outputs, (taking a second or so), switches the program, then unmutes the outputs, (againg taking a second or so). You could remove the muting circuit, but then you will most likely get switching noise that could damage your speakers.

I mainly use the 2496 for my guitar...its very important that there is no delay between patchs...
