Default ML 36S dac problem

Hi all,

My friend has ML 36S DA converter. Few weeks ago dac simply stop working: on display it shows something like ASCII codes...every time different pattern. I will upload attachment if necessary. It is impossible to use devise: power is ON but nothing is working, it is not possible to select any digital input.

My guru try to repair it but he come to conclusion that eprom is dead.

ML doesn't exist anymore (it's Samsung now?) and one distant service propose complete mother board replacement (with refurbished one) for over 1000 USD

Did any of you maybe had similar experience?

Many thx for any input,

PS I also has some personal interest to find solution (beside helping to a friend) since my dac is exactly the same type, 36S
