At $800 that's not cheap.

105$ USD + 10$ USD for the plug-in

also one very fun option:

https://www.minidsp.com/products/plate-amplifiers/pwr-ice125

295$ and that includes an excellent ICEpower 125ASX2, with volume control, etc... I'm having fun going at people's house with those, bypassing their flimsy old amplifiers, hooking up on their passive speakers and then work some EQ with my RTA for a mere half hour or so... Then see the surprise in their face when they hear the result. :)

And finally:

170$ and you have 8 channels, only digital, so you can chose your own DACs which is a good thing considering miniDSP converters are not their forte.
IMO you put the best DAC you can on the high frequencies drivers and budget ones on the rest.
Gustard DAC are not very reliable but they deliver great results for not too much money.

Thanks a lot for your input, gentlemen. It has been helpful.

Thank you, I really like this suggestion. It's cost effective and the one I would like to choose for a project.
My concerns are my lack of programming experience and uncertainty what other components are needed to get it operational. Any advice would be appreciated

:) What I'm a little confused about is that the description states the volume, treble, bass and cut off frequency (singular, not plural) are adjusted by potentiometer. It works with SigmaStudio and uses an extension board for audio interfacing, so I'm not sure what the purpose of the poteniometers?

Cheers!
