Default Convince me... DSP/XO

I am looking to do some noodling. I have access to some measurement equipment and am thinking about a MiniDsp.

I listen to mainly vinyl, so I have always adhered to the principle of keeping unnecessary digital components out of the chain, but am interested in testing crossover points and EQ to allow better insight and experimentation. My ultimate goal is to build an analog crossover once I know whats needed via the MiniDsp.

Based on this, would a MiniDsp suit my needs for experimentation, or should I be looking at another unit? Thanks in advance.

I would say yes. I have a 2x8 for just that purpose, but suspect it will remain in my system once installed.

I've messed about with foobar and some crossover software enough that I'll be ordering a mini dsp in the new year (hopefully).

Linkwitz uses them in his latest builds. Pretty good testimony. The pluto had a fairly in depth active analogue crossover.

Indeed, keep that monster out !
You can play with L's, C's and R's
( disclaimer : play thoughtfully 'cos amplifiers dislike "strange" loads )

That's exactly how I like to use digital X-overs and filters. It's super convenient to quickly change a filter and see how it performs, and DSPs are therefore great tools during the development of a filter.

However, my ears usually prefer the analog version in the long run. The only exception so far was a special case where the DSP was used to do things that are just too difficult to achieve with a passive filter (lots of very narrow band notch filters).
