finally my old NFB1 sound amazing.
the recipe is is rather straightforward and future proof...
pull out the dual WM8741 main board and replace with a combination of a waveio usb card (plus own transfo and supply) and the amazing AK4490 stereo dac (in the form of diyinhk: 768kHz/32Bit AK4490EQ DAC, I2S input)
hook up everything with solid silver wire
et voila...

the potentiometer of the 5 volts on the main board has to be crankup to 6+ volts dc, the AK4490 will like it...
