Default John Swenson Bottlehead DAC

A Bottlehead DAC designed by the one and only John Swenson. It soon will be here. If you are a friend of John Swenson, why don't you ask him about his DAC?

Hopefully it's not gonna be a "bottleneck" DAC.

It's gonna be interesting to see, if John was able to turn his infinite wisdom
into real world silicon.

A long, long time in development this dac is finished. From the Bottlehead Forum under Digital
$1,550 for the kit via Kickstarter.

TI's PCM5142 with much of the internal digital functionality disabled.

1550$!?!?? Good old "audiophile" times.

@500$ you'll get a iFi micro iDSD with NOS and battery supply and Octa-DSD and 768kHz PCM and FemtoClock and integrated USB filter and... ...and... damn good sound.

Yep. 4 years is a long long time. Meanwhile iFi IMO shuffles the market.

Enjoy.

The output is direct from the PCM5142 with no I/V stage, a balanced output would have added a whole bunch of additional circuity for little to no gain.

NO WAY that I would ever spend that kind of cash on a unit using a voltage-out dac chip, and with the chip's internal opamp directly driving the final output. That is just sad. REALLY sad. And 112dB for an allegedly "32bit dac" is even more sad. Is that even 18bit s/n performance? That chip appears by it's specs to be intended for the mid-fi market.
