A V3 stopped working ? Impossible ! 😀
Sorry for the confusion around C7. I just looked at the V3 beta boards and those did not have a + printed at C7...Weird...
For those that would like to try I have some V3 beta boards with possibility for 3 x 2 mm XO's. We stopped with that as we couldn't test those in time (AFAIK). Also GND is write at the wrong side of the SPDIF connector. Order by PM please.

The DAC along with the Subbu & Jean-Paul 5V supply sings here now that I finally ordered the missing RN1 that I must have lost during soldering. 😱

PS! I used a 4.7uF tantalum for C31 with the positive side towards ground. "Thank you for reminding me on that Jean-Paul"

BTW can you tell us which Phoenix connectors you used for SPDIF and L+R ? They look like an excellent replacement for those that cannot crimp Molex KK.

And according to my Stax Lambda Pro with the Stax SRM 717, the Dac plays beautiful with lots of details without the horrible high treble that the Stax without any mercy reveals.
And it keeps on getting better, and it will improve even more when I get this boxed with good and short cables.

I left C31 unpopulated as i thought it was optional, could not find it in the kit, i may have lost it.
Should i put a 4.7uf tantalum there as i have the one that didn't go in C17?

After recent experiments my personal opinion with the Subbu V3 DAC is that 10 ... 12 µF altogether is on the edge. So the value of all caps together at Vneg should be equal to or under 10 ... 12 µF but always more than 1 µF. I have 3 pieces V3 (final versions) and the one with 1 µF MLCC 0603 at the pins parallel to 1 µF MLCC 1210 at the bottom of the board in parallel to a 4.7 µF (Pana FC or better) sounded better than ones with 10 µF Pana FC etc. I did this experiments last weekend to verify/test some of GaryB's findings.
No confusion but just a remark -> I even changed one V3 to :
- 1 µF MLCC 0603 (C34) parallel to 1 µF MLCC 1210 (C31) in parallel to a 1 µF Wima MKS2 with 2.5 mm pitch (C32) and listened to that one since. Of course YMMV. One thing for sure is that 1 µF alone really is not enough and above 10 ...12 µF it goes either fine with SAL-RPM (you decide as I haven't done that comparison yet!) or a bit less good when 10 µF wet electrolytics are concerned (Pana FC, Silmic II).
In the days of V2.6 I tried a lot and then found that 22 µF in total was the maximum. With the V3 it seems to be somewhat more sensitive. Maybe the V3 is a tad more revealing. We learnt some audio-speak as you can see 😀
My advice : solder a 1 µF MLCC X7R for C31 and listen carefully if you like the result. You can later change the 10 µF or leave it as it is with the 1 µF for C31. I would not leave C31 unpopulated.

just want to report that I finished my version of the Subbu DAC V3 🙂
Thanks to JP I got hold of a beta board and now after quite some time I finally managed to put it together. I works right from the start 🙂
Did some first measurements (mainly as a functional test), listening test will follow later (having a bad cold and my hearing is badly influenced so I can't really enjoy listening
).

And the other V3 for the subwoofer is working 2!

Yes, the total value of all caps. The difference is small but I can hear it. It is not that your DAC is a failure with 10 to 12 µF ! Just keep listening and compare it to other devices before you do any mods.

You better had used a new one. Tantalum caps don't like to be reverse polarized. But keep it like it is now. As it works OK it will likely keep on working OK.

Nice build from an experienced builder. Is that a 22 µF Wima for C32 ? I think it is either a 10 µF or a 22 µF...

Can someone confirm if C9 and C1 is the same, I'm a little confused by the markings of the components, so just want to make sure. Also C24,C10,C23,C11 are the same as well right?.
