Default dcx2496 DIGITAL INPUTS AND OTHER ISSUES

ok i'll make this quick as I can I may need to duplicate post over in software section

system..
laptop(xp pro for now)..usb to vlink196 to dcx2496 with aes/ebu digital input.. direct to board. canare da206 with the good neutrick digital xlrs. good enuff i think.

ok i understand that the dcx hardware up samples everything to 24/96 for processing. correct?
so does changing to the AKM4396 help?

it seems a software solution, jriver or foobar, would be better to upsample and out put the 24/96 file native and let the v link pass 24/96 data to dcx so it doesn't upsample??

yes I know xp is 16 bit processing on audio and win 74 would be much better but that's $250 away for now( new hdd and win8 pro oem)

I've search the computer audiofool site and basically get stereophile type opinion with no data..

any help??
Thanks
