Default Sanyo MN6474 vs PCM1798

So I want to build a dac.
Long story short. my harmon kardon uses the sanyo dac.
I'm planning on building a dac at some stage, to by-pass the built in DAC.
Is it worth using the PCM1798 as core?
What can I use that will be substantially better?
It will be used from PC, as well as cdp, and run into SRPP valve pre-amp.
