Seems quite good for $39 plus shipping :-)
HifiMeDiy Sabre USB DAC. 96khz/24bit - ES9023+TE7022 I made sure I bought one (from ebay) before spreading the word. Suspect there will be a few more of us ordering one very soon! |

Gets its power from the USB bus and it has a noisy reg....when you change that it could be a very good DAC but then it is not cheap anymore. You see only a few design choices can make a vast difference. ODAC is no comparison as it was designed with quality as the most important parameter (not cost).

I jumped on one of those a few days ago. Same receiver/DAC-combo as the ODAC. Don't expect it to be anywhere near, but would be fun to see what it can do..

I just received mine. Its amazingly small and good
Despite powered by usb, it seems to have more dynamics than my WM8741, 12V powered dac. The best $39 I spent for a long time

Just ordered one for fun.
Thanks for the heads-up. He lists 1V (rms) maximum into 30R on the output, which would still be 10 times what I need for full loudness on my 32R 114dB/V AKG K550s. I'm guessing that he must be leaving off the 220R series-resistor low pass filters the ODAC has on the output lines to get that, for better or worse: http://www.yoyodyneconsulting.ca/dow...AC-release.pdf Last edited by agdr; 14th September 2012 at 03:54 AM. |

Ordered mine around the same time. Got confirmation yesterday that it was shipped. Got a Direct-DAC on the way in the same shipment. Can't wait to see how they stack up to the ODAC.

You receive an email confirmation when order, and the tracking numbera few days later. Send a mail to mail@hifimediy.com if trouble. It's a small business, but they are quite responsive. |
