From reading the Theta legacy pages it has PCM63 DACs - very highly regarded by people seeking a more analog sound from their digital kit. Can't work out though whether the output stage is still AD841 or discrete. If the former then it was an excellent choice at the time but parts with better dynamic performance are available now.

Very good DAC.
PCM63x 2 per channel.
Output stage after DAC is fully discrete Class A bipolar tramsistor stage. No caps in signal path.
Input stage uses CS8412 and a bunch of digital processing chips (reclocking, etc).
True balanced and single-ended outputs.
Can be upgraded by using low noise power supplies to PCM63.

Picked it up for 100$ us not working....

Replaced a shorted tantalum and the dac chips.... Sounds very nice but seems to be lacking some bass. I added a toslink to it also, seeing this is a second dac I like tos to prevent noise being sent back to my cdpro drive.

Need to test it for freq response. And then I will recap it.

It weights 40 pounds.....those dang tantalums are really heavy.... :)
