Help needed building a DAC
 

Hi,
i have started building this project and i was planning using PCM1794 instead of 1796 but i have discovered that this DAC's are not pin to pin compatible.
I'm not very used with digital circuits but after some reading i have discovered that 1796 needs some uC to be controlled and 1794 does not.
Knowing that 1794 can be hardware controlled is there any problem if i decide to install a PCM1794 and make de pcb adjustemts and leave the pins from Atmega16 not connected to the PCM like they where designated to be connected to 1796 ?

I suppose (hope) to remain active the source selection implemented in the Atmega16.

Are my ideas viable or i need to make some software adjustments in Atmega ?
