Looking for/at TDA1543 and what people do with them stumbled upon, for example, this: 8x TDA1543 Non-Oversampling DAC .

Saw other circuits too, e.g.: SPDIF audio DAC with CS8416 and TDA1543 .

In the latter link I see decoupling 0.1uF capacitor between Vcc and Gnd, and in the former I don't.

Audio DIY'ers don't have an automatic habit of placing power decoupling capacitors ?

...

By the way, a useful comment:

Nah, any circuit with 1543 involved is voodoophile's circuit. Especially when stacked.
Voodoophiles don't care about any electronics stuff.

So no 1543 would benefit from any decoupling :)

The same applies to your other post 'bout 24bit thing.

The circuit is pretty fast, though THD is high.

Because the circuit is fast, oversampling at SW level can be used. I.e. bad native precision can be somewhat compensated for by feeding a faster bitstream and "playing" with it.

E.g. if the frequency is increased 4 times, 2 extra bits of resolution can be had in time domain. I mean,

1/4 can be added by adding 1 in 1 sample and not adding it in the consequent 3 samples,

2/4 can be added by adding 1 in 2 samples and not adding it in the consequent 2 samples,

3/4 can be added by adding 1 in 3 samples and not adding it in the consequent 1 sample.

If analog deviations are random from chip to chip, summing currents may improve situation with THD/precision.

I'm trying to say that most 1543 circuits out there are flawed in any possible way, which closely relates to their designers and statements of such as "96kHz/24bit" you have cited in this topic - http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-line-level/214498-tda1543-nos-dac-v4-5-24-bits.html

There are some tricks that may help the 1543 performance, but the greatest of these "tricks" is to use a TDA1541 instead :)

OK, -95db THD of TDA1541 is definitely much better than -75db THD of TDA1543 :).

But eBay price of TDA1541 is the same 20db higher :):).
