I'm thinking about getting a wireless DAC for a new stereo system after new years and heard a lot of good things about the NAD DAC1. It seems it would suit my application just perfectly but I was wondering if anyone knew the actual bit and sample rate of this model. The advertisements and reviews say that it can play 24bit/196kHz audio files(I'm happy with 24/96) but the spec sheet says it does 16/48.

The reviews mention the specs of the PCM1781, the DAC-IC inside the DAC1. This DAC is capabale of handling a variety of data (16, 18, 20 or 24 bits) at different sampling frequencies (from 5 kHz up to 200 kHz).
If NAD specifies 16 bits / 48 kHz, that's what the DAC-IC inside the DAC1 has been set up for, and it probably won't play other formats. Having said that, I do expect you'll be able to play other formats, though, but they will have been converted to 16 bits 48 kHz before being wirelessly transmitted to the DAC1.
