Hifimediy direct out cs4398 DAC - Page 24

I received the DAC today. Upon powered up, the onboard LED failed to lit up although the 5V and 3.3V showed correct output on my multimeter.

Further measurement of the couple output (after the caps) measured a 2.5VDC at both LH and RH channel with no digital inputs.

Is this normal?

Hi, it's normal. And I have to explain what the LEDs mean on board.
1. LED near USB input, indicates the USB active or not.
2. LED on SRC module, light up when the signal input is locked(correct).
3. LED on switch board, means there is signal active on the current channel.

Hi thanks for the reply. I took the step of faith last night and hooked up to my system and it works! Haha.

The sound is a little flat now, probably need to burn in. BTW, would it be better to use optical input or coaxial?

Hi, good. I like optical more, it's electrical isolated.

how would the sound of the CS 4398 directly describe out?
I have a 40 € the DAC is just great. He is firmly on
24bit 192 khz set. Has a great impedance converter output stage. Powerful bass and treble fine resolution Spatial resolution.

The CS4398 sounds very near to the analog and natural... The descriprtion of the hifimedy's application looks awsome. Maybe the best CS4398 DAC Board on the market... Absolutely to have and test !!! Testing by me coming soon... It is possible to find CS4398's KITs for ~20 EUR with few mod you can obtain a nice sound spending less then ~60 EUR and ~2 days work.

There is differential output connector on board.
