Minidsp 2x8 power supply
I bought the 2x8 module with minidigi and ministreamer a couple of weeks ago and are now trying to find the best power supply for this module. It should have 12vdc around 18w I think. I see people using old computer and cell phone chargers. I think it must be some potential from using a well sized and high quality power supply. Good DACs for example are as known very sensitive to a good/poor power supply, why should it be different with the miniDSP(who also can be looked at as a kind of DAC)?

Inputs for good powersupply solutions is warmly welcomed :)

Any regulated psu will be fine. I have used a 12V "wall wart" type unit. Others have used those regulated SMPS off eBay which look like nice little units and quite cheap.

To investigate the effects of PSU on miniDSP performance i connected my balanced 2x4 board to a spare 12v car battery. I noticed no discernable difference in audio performance or outputted noise level/noise floor.

Maybe something like this could be an easy and cheap solution:

New 12V DC 4.2A 50W Regulated Switching Power Supply | eBay

But what about a linear power supply? Will it make a difference?

A linear supply i would not use in this application. There is always some ripple and you don't need high power.

The one you linked to looks fine. But it is quite powerful. You could get away with a 24W version only powering one miniDSP 2x8 (their datasheet states 18W is needed).

Something like this one perhaps:

12V 2A DC Universal Regulated Switching Power Supply | eBay UK

Okay, thanks for your suggestions :)

Then I think I will order the SMPS I linked to (50w version), the price difference is minimal and it cant be negative to have a bit of extra power :)

Would this work as a PSU for a 2 X 8?
Would this be a good candidate or am I barking up the wrong tree:

12 VDC 5A Switching Power Supply with 2.5 x 5.5mm Plug
