Slew-rate induced distortion in SPDIF

Yes, I don't disagree with this & the issues raised in relation to the SPDIF interface are numerous - among which will be found:
- impedance mismatches
- PLL recovery of clock
- bandwith limitation of the interface
- inter-symbol interference
- ground bounce
- transitions for 1 bits but none for 0 bits

I just don't think that the slew-rate of SPDIF receivers & associated active circuitry has been considered before as a possible distortion mechanism (jitter) & I wondered about this & if there was any information in relation to this specifically?

Just like a square wheel, SPDIF was born as an inadequate interface. Studying its problems is fine, but I would have thought striving for something better like a round wheel was more objective.

It's unavoidable for a lot of people/situations - one could say we're stuck with it & it's therefore worthwhile finding how to get the best out of it.
