XMOS-based Asynchronous USB to I2S interface

Just wanted to share a bit of experience:
I been using WaveIO with simple 7805 linear regulator PSU for quite some time before i decided to try good stabilized PSU (Placid HD from Twisted Pear in my case) and i must say i was impressed by the difference. The main area of improvement is smoother, less "grainy" sound with better transparency and soundstage and simply more pleasant to listen to.

Also, did anyone use WaveIO with dedicated PCIe USB cards? They cost like 10-20$, have external power and are easy to mod.
I found that most of effects associated with USB ports or why OS, drivers, software etc sound different is how noisy USB and environment it's in. How this could possibly affect externally powered WaveIO is beyond me though, but it does. Dedicated USB, especially well modded one really improve things on "general purpose" PCs like mine

Lorien, keep up the good work!

wave lo board help

Hi folks , im trying to use the wave lo board as a usb to spdif converter
but im having problems , ive tried a seperate 5v supply , and ive tried it powered via the usb cable , but it still dont work ,im using windows seven
ive tried both spdif connections square pad hot wire and other connection earth
if i go to control panel and select sound i can see it playing but sound dont
come out my dac just lots of clicking , anyone can help cheers phil.

Yes if I get the usb cable from the laptop and plug it into the wave lo board
no spdif connections there is a green power light and if I move the jumper it
lights up when I give it 5v from a separate power supply, music is playing on my laptop speakers but when I plug in the usb to the wave lo board the
speakers go off on the laptop and in control panel sound it is showing that it
is playing but when I connect it from spdif to dac no sound just clicking from j11 and no sound from j10 its like its having problems locking onto the
signal ,

I have a fan music usb to spdif converter and that works fine £20

drivers 2.23 and 2.24 and v2.26.0).zip which is right for windows 7 I think its v 2.26.0

cheers phil.

ok start at 16 bit 44.1 khz and go up from there...

can you show a picture of your set up

i never had problem with the i2s but the coax can be tricky, i use kynar 26 or 24 AWG (silver plated oxigen free copper) that i twist together very short distance (isolated output only)

dig into W7 driver menu to see all the option, oh i forgot i always deactivate all the sound hardware on the computer i use (hackmac, pc or linux...) if you want it very easy boot daphile instead of W7 (no driver needed)
