Default Newbie Asking Softball Questions

Hello-I recently purchased an older Adcom 600 DAC with i believe PCM63 chips...Should those original chips be replaced with the new and improved 63 series? If so which ones? Are there other mods that should be done to bring this digital antique up to today's standards? Thanks everyone for any advice/direction offered!

The old PCM63s are still thought of pretty highly by some, they can be replaced by the higher spec units, PKs I think, but they are very expensive and also very hard to find. There's also a lot of counterfeits

There's a ton of mods you can do, opamp replacement is probably on the top of the list. Opamp development has advanced tremendously since the 600 was made.

Do a little Googling.

Thanks for the info...It's seems there is no limit to the extent one can modify the Adcom..All depends on how much time/money one wants to invest..Seems the unit has "good bones" and is popular for modding...

It's old enough now that it could use a recapping for starters.
