Does anybody here code their own DSP's. I do embedded device development and I'm thinking about writing the firmware for one. Can anybody suggest a chip? The Microchip brand PIC's are my first choice simply because I am familiar with those and have necessary software and equipment to program them.
Any suggestions on features it should have? I can program it to do about anything. Also I will add a LCD display and features for it are of interest to me also. Any display capability suggestions? |

I haven't used them for digital audio as such, but I am very pleased by the performance of the dsPIC range, and also the 32-bit PIC32s - although I prefer non-SMD ICs I can solder myself!
I have even found the built-in RC oscillator of the dsPICs to be very accurate, giving an internal clock speed approaching 120MHz, so they are very easy to get going with. I have recently used one of those bog-standard backlit 16X2 LCDs with a dsPIC, which unfortunately uses up quite a few DIO lines, but I think you can get LCDs with serial interfaces though they are not as common. Also, consider using a rotary encoder with built-in push switch as a main user interface (if you need one). |
