Default What transformer for Lampucera DAC?

Hi all,

Back to the Lampucera DAC again (old style).

I have just used the DAC for the first time and it all works fine in standard trim. I am using a 9-0-9 VAC transformer, but it would seem that a 12 VAC transformer is recommended.

Is there a problem using a 9V transformer, as the rectified voltage will be 12V anyway?

I am using the supplied power supply board that came with the DAC kit, but I was wondering if using a 12V transformer would give the voltage regulators too much to do. The DAC DC supplies appear to be 5v and 12V.

Any ideas?

Many thanks

9V * 1.414 (after rectification) = 12.726V Don't know type of diode used for rectification so not gonna add diode voltage drop, but still 0.726V of overhead is less than drop-out voltage of the regulator, so you get no regulation.

12VAC transformer for 12VDC regulated out sounds right.

No, true, but there is a 5V supply on the board also.

I have been using mine with 12v for two years.
No problems so far.

Would that be a 12-0-12V transformer? Would it be possible to perhaps use a 2x 0-12V transformer somehow?
