I am also looking for a new DAC and these three are on my short list. Why is the Emotiva off the table? On sale for $299. Which is tempting, but the volume control issues in the past seem a problem, though now should be fixed. No volume control on the Cambridge, but if you have a preamp, no need for it. At present I am without a preamp, though will build one in the near future, but in the short run could use a volume control, even if at lower volumes a digital vol. control costs some transparency. Of the three, for some reason, I am leaning towards the Matrix Mini, though tempted by the lower price and free shipping of the Emotiva. I want XLR/balanced capabilites, so a bunch of other DACs are out of the consideration set.
